In this episode, we meet Edith from Hawaii, one of our very first signing agents from the Aloha State. In the full interview, Edith shares her secrets to success and practical tips on how to grow your notary business, so be sure to check it out.
Meet Edith: A Trailblazer from the Big IslandLiving in a small community of 1,200 on the Big Island of Hawaii, Edith defied all odds by making $87,600 in 2022 alone, even amidst a correcting market. For Edith, this accomplishment isn’t just a number—it’s a testament to her hard work and determination, and it’s absolutely amazing. The Journey from the Medical Field to Notary Loan SigningReflecting on her journey, Edith shares that she transitioned from the medical field as a medical biller to a notary loan signing agent to achieve something many parents yearn for: more time and availability for her children. "Being a parent, I wanted to be there 110% for my kids, and my previous job was just too restrictive," Edith explains. "I felt like I was failing them, and I needed a change." Achieving the Unthinkable During a Pandemic2021: A Year Like No Other In the midst of the pandemic, she made an astounding $199,000. "Never in my life did I think I would make that much, especially in a town of 1200 people. I hoped for maybe $75,000 a year, but 2021 surpassed all my expectations." Going the Extra Mile - Literally Living on an island with a population of just 1200 people, Edith didn’t let location limit her success. Operating in a rural area means that she often faces long travel times to reach her clients. A signing appointment for her can entail a six-hour swing—two and a half hours to the location, an hour at the signing, and another two and a half hours back. Yet, Edith embraces this as part of her job, understanding that this is what sets her apart and what successful signing agents do. Building and Leveraging RelationshipsA critical component of Edith’s success is her ability to build and maintain strong relationships with escrow officers and loan officers. She ensures that she is consistently in touch, even if it’s just to check in and show her face. Edith knows that being present and building trust leads to more opportunities. The escrow officers know they can count on her, even sending additional work her way when she’s already out on the field. A Message of PerseveranceEdith’s journey as a signing agent in a rural area is a testament to her strength, perseverance, and strategic approach to her career. Her advice to other signing agents is to study, learn the work, and never give up. Challenges and moments of doubt are part of the journey, but they are not the end of the road.
