How Does Remote Online Notarization Work?

When conducting remote online notarizations, all documents are completely digital, meaning there are no paper documents required in the process.

  • Recorded Notarizations - The entire Remote Online Notarization process is recorded and stored for up to 10 years which provides another layer of protection.
  • Tamper Evident Documents - A digital certificate is added to the notarized document, making it tamper-evident. If any changes are made after the document is notarized, authorized parties will be able to see who, when, where, and what changes were made. 

There are multiple methods of identity verification, most of which are completed using third-party technology software designed for verifying identities in a digital capacity so you can ensure the signer is exactly who they say they are even though you may not be in the same physical location.

Fees You Can Charge as a Remote Online Notary 

Depending on your State’s laws surrounding Remote Online Notarization, you can charge anywhere between $5 and $25 per notarial act. 

If your state allows it, you can also charge additional fees, such as a technology fee to cover the cost of your platform, pre-tagging fees to cover the time you spent tagging the documents before the session, and so on. This can increase how much you can make doing remote online notarizations.
