If I Google 'notary near me',  Google wants to know that you are relevant to the search and Google should show your business above others.

Words like notary, notary public, document services, apostille, and the like are called keywords and are what tells Google your business is relevant when someone searches for them and those words are on your Google Business Profile. 

Distance

The second thing that Google will look for is distance which is your proximity to the perspective customer.  The closer you are to the prospective customer, the higher probability you will have to be found. ​

Prominence: Reviews and Online Presence

Prominence has two primary factors: reviews and online presence.

If the UPS store is getting a 3.6 star review rating and First Choice Notary is getting a 4.9 star rating.

  • 💻  The first step is to go to google.com/business to set up your profile.

  • ​🔍 Add your business name. Keywords in your business name will give you more relevance in Google's eyes.
  • 🖊 Add your business category: notary public
  • 📍 Add your location. Since you're a mobile notary and your services can be in a variety of places, select no for physical address. 
  • 🚙 Choose the different counties and cities where you will be willing to travel.
  • 🧑🏼‍💻 Add your website to improve your online presence.
  • ✅ Verify your business.
  • 🔑 Add all services with keywords to improve relevance.
  • 🕐 Expand your hours of operations. 
  • 💬 Turn on messaging and add a keyword rich description. 

​Set up your entire profile completely and don't be afraid to mention notary public over and over. 

As part of your online presence, make sure that everything your business name, hours of operation, and other details match other online platforms such as your website, Yelp, Thumbtack, etc. Your Business Name should match every other place online. Do not add keywords to your business name unless that is actually part of the name of your business. 

This is to prevent Google and your customers from being confused. 

If your Google Business Profile says that your notary business is open 24 hours, but another area says you're only open 8-5, then your customer will likely be confused and Google will know and not rank you as high. Remember: Whenever there's confusion, the answer's always "no."
