The Best Gifts to Give Your Clients

Picture
If you are searching for the very best gifts to give your client (for the holidays, a birthday, a special event, or just because), then look no further! This gift idea guide will help you zero in on the best gifts that will leave an amazing impression on your clients and will help you to continue building your business relationships!

🎁 Gift Giving Happens All the Time

Being a good gift giver is beneficial because the opportunity to give them happens all the time! The holiday season always gets here much faster than we expect… your clients’ birthdays are spread throughout the entire year… you want something special to give that special client for that special event… or perhaps, you are simply searching for a perfect gift to give a client just because you are grateful to have the opportunity to work together.

So what can you possibly give your client that would differentiate your gift from the three same gift baskets or four boxes of chocolates they already received from other clients?!

The best way to answer that question is to remember why you are giving the gift in the first place.

Gift Giving Starts with “G”... And So Does Gratitude

First and foremost, give a gift to your client because you are truly grateful for the opportunity to work with them. Gift giving shouldn’t be because you expect or are trading for future business!

Lead with your heart, not your desire for a bigger bank account. Starting with authentic gratitude will allow you to hone into the perfect gift for your client.

Authentic gratitude because you get to work together... authentic gratitude to share your services with them… authentic gratitude that they help put food on your family’s table… and authentic gratitude that you get to connect with another human on this planet!

I truly believe that your gift giving is directly correlated to the degree that you are expressing your gratitude towards your client!

Giving the same exact gift basket to all four of your clients may not be the best way to convey what you really are trying to express... which is a heartfelt thank you!

So how can you say thank you, stand out, and not break the bank this holiday season? It’s simple.

Start with gratitude — then just combine a little bit of thoughtfulness!

It’s the Thought(fulness) that Counts

You’ve heard the term, “it’s the thought that counts,” right?! It usually is said after someone gives you a less-than-stellar gift and you say, “well, at least they thought of me.”

To give a stellar gift, it’s not just the thought… but the thoughtfulness of the gift. And your thoughtfulness in giving the gift will far outweigh how much you spend.

Clients, family, or friends all cherish the same exact gifts… which are the gifts that show you care, gifts that show that you listen, or gifts that show that you understand them.

If you have a client that is the hardest working person in the office, then get him a thoughtful gift where he can get away from work and escape. If you have a client that loves taking her husband out to unique restaurants, get her a gift card to a new place in town. If you have a client that loves music, get him a gift card to Ticketmaster or Apple Music.

Your clients will remember you (over your competition) when you show your gratitude of working together with a thoughtful gift.

🔑 Presentation: The Key to Gift Giving

The key to good gift giving has more to do with how you present the gift, rather than the gift itself.

Get a good, plain card and write exactly why you got them your thoughtful gift. Demonstrate to your client that you listen, care, and understand them with a heartfelt message. The message should show that you understand their primary desires... whether that be their family, their well being, or their happiness... and that you care enough to get a gift that helps them achieve their desires.

I'm going to share some gift ideas below, and provide examples of what I might say to a client to show that I listen, care, and understand them.

My Five Favorite Gift Ideas to Give Clients and Show Gratitude

Here are 5 easy, inexpensive, but thoughtful gifts, as well as some ideas on how to present them to your clients!

#1

Movie Tickets!

Who to Get it For: The Movie Buff

Who doesn’t love the movies!? Give your client a gift card to your local movie theater! It’s under $30 and they will actually use them and remember you the entire evening!

🔑 Movie Ticket Presentation Example:

I couldn't be more thankful for you and your business. I got you these movie tickets because I remember you mentioning being a Star Wars fan!

You work so hard that I thought getting you away from the desk, out with your loved one, and into a movie would be the perfect gift for you!

Thank you so much for being an amazing client!
Get your movie ticket gift cards at your local movie theater OR you can order them in bulk through Amazon! For your convenience, I've included affiliate links to movie card options below!

Pro Tip: be sure you get them a gift card to their local theater, not yours… if they have to travel to watch a movie, chances are that’s going to be a re-gift item.

#2

$50 Gift Certificate to a Local Restaurant!

Who to Get it For: The "Foodie" Who Loves Going Out

Giving a gift certificate to a local restaurant is a great way to break the “gift basket” monotony and give a gift that they can use themselves versus just throwing it on the break room counter (where most gift baskets go).

🔑 Restaurant Gift Card Presentation Example:

I’m thankful I get to work with you! I remember you mentioned you and your wife love trying new places to eat in town so I took the liberty to get you a $50 gift card to one of my favorite new spots that you MUST try (if you haven't already)!

I’d recommend trying their [insert your personal favorite appetizer or wine]... it’s fantastic!
I like to get my gift cards directly from the restaurant… the presentation of an actual certificate is usually nicer than a gift card you find online.

Pro Tip: Make sure its a restaurant they like (their favorite food) or perhaps it's the new “popular” restaurant in town that you recommend they check out!

#3

A Portable Cell Phone Charger!

Who to Get It For: The Road Warrior

This gift is really thoughtful for a client who is constantly on the phone (a road warrior). But even if they are not, you cannot have enough portable chargers because we live on our cell phones!

This gift is thoughtful because it is something they will actually use! And guess who they think of every time they use it…YOU!!

🔑 Portable Cell Phone Charger Gift Presentation Example:

I am soooo appreciative of your business that I wanted to get you something you will actually use!!

Since you’re always on the go and talking about deals on the phone, here’s one of my favorite portable phone chargers so you never run out of juice! I hope you enjoy it!
This gift will beat out a gift basket all day long!

Pro Tip: The best spot to buy a portable cell phone charger is Amazon, because they are inexpensive there and you can sort by reviews to be sure you get the very best one! Here are a few examples:

#4

A Pedicure!

Who to Get it For: The Client that Spends a Lot of Time On Their Feet

Imagine just how much your client will remember you as they enjoy a relaxing pedicure after all the walking around they do at the office or other place of work!

You can get your client a pedicure from their local mani/pedi professional for $25 to $50. And, yes, men love pedicures too (and if they have never had one, this may be the very best gift they could receive from a client)!!

🔑 Pedicure Gift Presentation:

I always see you on your feet at the office... going from this co-worker to that co-worker to get business done!

I thought a nice pedicure would help keep your feet refreshed and happy!
There is so much more thought behind this gift they another bottle of wine!

#5

A 30-Minute Massage

Who to Get it For: The Client that Puts In a Hard Day's Work

If you ask me, this is the best $30 to $60 you can spend on a present! A massage is the ultimate gift of relaxation!

When you give this gift you are letting them know you care about their well-being!

🔑 30 Minute Massage Gift Presentation Example:

You have been an incredible client and I have really appreciated the opportunity to work together to serve your clients!

You're one of the hardest working people I know so I got you this 30-minute massage... you deserve this gift of relaxation!
Pro Tip: Just like the movie theater gift card, you want to be sure it’s at a location near their home or workplace. If they have to travel far for the massage, they are less likely to use it (unless it’s a destination spa).

Remember, it's important that you spend a few moments thinking about what your client likes. You can often tell by just looking around their workplace. They'll have clues like photos and memorabilia that you can use to give gift ideas when the time comes!

And be sure that your presentation of the gift includes a thoughtful message. I've given some brief examples, but create your own based on your understanding of what your client is interested in.

Bonus Gift Ideas

Travel Pillow (Under $20)

If you have a client who is always taking long flights, give them a travel pillow (here’s my favorite travel pillow… packs tightly and is less than $20)!

REI Lifetime Membership ($20)

If your client loves the outdoors, get them an REI membership! It's only $20 and they get all the benefits of being a member of REI!

Personalized Coffee Mug ($20 to $25)

If your client is a coffee-lover, a personalized coffee mug is a unique gift that they could potentially stare at all day long!

Personalize it with a message that they care about and shows that you listen and understand them! Perhaps it's a favorite quote of theirs or a certain type of animal that they love (e.g. horses).

Personalized Yoga Mat ($40 to $90)

If your client loves yoga, get them a gift certificate to get a personalized yoga mat (or make one for them if you really know what they like).
Personalized Yoga Mat

Hydro Flask ($25 to $40)

Hydro Flasks are the top-of-the-line water bottles that keep cold beverages cold up to 24 hours and hot beverages hot up to 12 hours!

It's the perfect gift for someone who exercises, goes hiking, or just wants to keep their coffee hot all workday long!

Personalized Apron ($25 to $40)

If your client loves to grill or cook, a personalized apron is a thoughtful and unique gift.

Again, do your homework on ideas to embroider onto the apron to show you listen, care, and understand them!

Portable Bluetooth Speaker ($20 to $60)

Give the gift of sound for that music lover who always has their favorite songs playing at work.

A portable speaker can go anywhere and you can definitely use more than one (one for home, one for work, etc).

You get the picture!

Giving a gift of gratitude is easy and inexpensive if it comes from the right place!

Be thoughtful and you will be remembered this holiday season (or birthday/special event/etc)!

Add some thoughtfulness to your gratitude in gift giving and watch your client remember you all year long!
